What I Will Miss/Won’t Miss About Summer

What I Won’t Miss About Summer…

Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes

Humidity

Mosquitoes

Crowded beaches

And….mosquitoes!

What I Will Miss About Summer…

Grilling food outdoors

A dip in the Long Island Sound at high tide

Watching osprey feed their young

Floating in our pool

Margaritas and Mojitos

Hot dogs and Italian ices at Bonanza’s

Fireflies!

Yes, you figured it out.  I am a “winter” person who also enjoys fall and spring (which seem to be disappearing each year). What are you?

  1. Join the club. There has been only 1 out of a dozen votes for summer. Fall is winning…. I love it, too. But somehow I think we’re going to have to wait a while; at least until hurricane season ends!

  2. My neighbor pulled his boat out of the lake for the season and now I’m mourning the thought of no more swimming for the season. But – I did love the crisp fall air we had this weekend. I think I like every season as it arrives.

    1. I love the detail of your “neighbor pulling his boat out of the lake for the season.” There are so many ways we acknowledge the change of seasons, both consciously and subconsciously. I must admit, I don’t enjoy even the arrival of summer because I know how uncomfortable I will be. Having said that, I also “get” how some people love summer. It just doesn’t work for me.

  3. This is a great slice structure. I’m with you on what you won’t miss about summer. I just heard we’re due for some more humidity later this week. Ugh! I do love all the seasons but there’s much I’ll miss about summer–I’m already deep in anticipatory grieving about the hummingbirds’ departure! (Saw one yesterday though!)

    1. We’re about to enter “hurricane season.” So, yes, there is actually something worse than summer! Now the weather turns very humid, wet, windy and unpredictable from day to day. Sigh. It ain’t easy living in the Northeast! Are you writing from Maine? If so, I am amazed to hear about your hummingbirds…tell me more.

      1. In Maine we have only one species of hummingbird–the ruby-throated–but they are quite common around here. I have a feeder in my garden and they entertained me all summer long with their antics. I also enjoyed trying to capture their swift flight in photos.

  4. I can understand your love of sunshine, living on the west coast of Ireland. I think of your climate as similar to Seattle, Washington’s. Am I close? In winter, bright, sunny days are my favorite. I love to go walking without sweating.

    1. Finally!!! Although with the predicted hurricane activity I think we’re in for more hot, humid weather. Today I took a walk; it was 81 degrees. I came back all sweaty. I got about four or five mosquito bites just pausing to look at my daughter’s garden for 5 minutes. Help!!!!!
What’s your favorite time of year?
